Let’s Talk About Industrial Halogen Tube Heaters
Think of a halogen tube as a high-powered infrared heater on steroids. They aren’t like the lightbulbs in your living room. These things use a halogen gas cycle that basically “recycles” the tungsten back onto the filament. Why does that matter? It keeps the quartz tube from getting cloudy and lets the lamp run scorching hot without just giving up and burning out. Getting the Power Right Here is the thing about voltage and wattage: they control exactly how much heat you’re hitting your product with. If you pack a ton of wattage into a short tube, you get an intense, concentrated blast of heat. But you have to be careful with your transformer. If you’re running 230V or 400V, it needs to be a perfect match. If you over-volt it? Snap. There goes your filament. On the flip side, if the voltage is too low, you won’t get enough IR emission. Your material won’t get hot enough in time, and your whole production line slows down. The Build and the Connections We use high-purity quartz because it can handle those wild temperature swings without cracking. Some of our tubes even have special coatings. Depending on what you need, these can either focus the heat or act as a shield against gunk and debris. Then there are the connectors—usually R7s or SK15. They’re industry standards for a reason: they fit tight. You really don’t want a loose connection here. A loose fit can cause an arc, which will melt your socket and kill the lamp in seconds. Not a fun day at the office. Putting Them to Work You’ll see these in everything from PET bottle blowing to shrink wrapping and curing lines. The best part? They’re instant. No waiting around for a resistive heater to warm up. You flip the switch, and you have heat. Just remember, this kind of heat is aggressive. Keep your reflectors clean and make sure your cooling fans are actually doing their job. If the housing gets too hot, your seals will fail and your tubes won’t last nearly as long. The good news is that these are simple drop-in replacements for most standard IR setups. Just pop them in and get back to work.
