
Getting the Most Out of Your 250mm Halogen Heat Lamp
We built these 250mm halogen lamps specifically for those tight, compact industrial ovens where you need precision, not just raw power. Running at 230V and 200W, they give you a steady heat that won’t accidentally fry your workpiece just because the chamber is small. The deal with the power Since we’ve spread 200W over 250mm, you aren’t dealing with the crazy, intense heat spikes you’d find in something like a PET blowing tube. That’s by design. It keeps the temperature even across the whole piece. Now, you can plug this straight into a standard 230V main, but please—use a PID controller. If you don’t, you’re basically gambling with the filament during that first ramp-up. It’s just not worth the risk of burning it out. Why the quartz and gas matter Inside that quartz envelope, there’s a tungsten filament and a little bit of halogen gas. This creates a sort of “recycling” loop. As the filament starts to evaporate, the gas actually pushes the tungsten back onto the wire. It stops the wire from thinning out too fast. The result? Your heat output stays consistent instead of dipping over time. A few tips for the install These are usually easy drop-in replacements for your existing oven arrays. Because they use shortwave infrared, the heat jumps straight to your target. It doesn’t waste time heating up all the air in the room first. But here is where people usually mess up:the reflectors. If your aluminum or stainless steel mirrors are pitted or looking a bit dull, you’re losing a huge chunk of your heat. Keep them clean. And one last thing—be careful with your fingers. Quartz hates skin oils. If you touch the glass with your bare hands, you’ll leave a smudge that creates a hot spot. When the lamp heats up, that spot can cause the glass to crack. Grab some isopropyl alcohol and give the tubes a good wipe-down before you flip the switch. Your lamps will thank you.
